Dr. Laurie Brustad Kennedy graduated from the Clinical Psychology program at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks in 1991. After working as a staff psychologiest at the University of North Dakota Counseling Center for 5 years and maintaining a part time private practice, she founded the Center for Self-Growth and Renewal, PC in March 1996. Dr. Brustad Kennedy has gradually built a thriving practice with an outstanding group of mental health professionals whose diverse specialties range from pediatric psychology and neuropsychological assessment to group psychotherapy and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). Dr. Brustad Kennedy specializes in the treatment of trauma, dissociation, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. In addition to being well grounded in very traditional psychotherapeutic methods she is also trained and utilitzes a variety of specialized treatment modalities including Clinical Hypnosis, Guided Imagery, Advanced Integrative Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, and Ego State Therapy.
She is skilled in treating a variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, body image, grief and loss, gender issues, military deployment/adjustment, spiritual concerns, and many others. She has had 6 months of intensive training at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in St. Cloud, MN with a focus on treating veterans with acute and chronic mental health concerns, whose military service spanned from WWI to the Vietnam era. Dr. Brustad Kennedy completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN where she continued her work with veterans and received specialized training in neuropsychology, HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, and post-traumatic stress disorder. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, the North Dakota Psychological Association, the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation, and the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology. She is a Certified Advanced Integrative Therapy Practitioner.
